Glossier's Boy Brow

Beauty, Beauty Review, Cruelty-FreeKristenComment

Let’s have a chat about an ever-evolving beauty trend: eyebrows. We all have them. But no one really knows what the fuck we’re doing with them, do we? Have you seen the trend where people shave off the tails of their eyebrows? Like, why? One of my favorite influencers recently shaved her eyebrows off completely and I had to unfollow her because it looked so horrible. Absolutely heartbreaking. Abby Roberts bleached her eyebrows and had to dye them back because her comments sections were ripping her a new one. PSA: please just leave them alone. Eyebrows are important to your face, and your face is important to me.

When I was younger, thin brows were in. I started getting my unibrow waxed when I was in the sixth grade. It was around when waxing first started getting popular, as well as threading. Waxing salons and threading booths started popping up everywhere.

Eventually, we started loving the bold, bushy brow look. A little tame, but kind of not. Confusing, right? We let them grow out (to a degree) and started filling them in with ABH Dipbrow, etc. I was never one to do anything to my eyebrows. My hair is pretty dark, and my eyebrows are too. The one time I tried filling them in, I looked like a clown.

Nowadays, I go to the salon when my brows look like a crime scene, but for the most part, I tame them myself with some tweezers and a motorized hair remover. Even when my brows are in tip-top shape, I realized a couple of months ago that I needed something to tame them just a bit.

I bought a clear mascara and brow gel duo from e.l.f. just to test them both out. The mascara made my eyes insanely itchy, but the brow gel actually looked great. I loved the sleek look I could get, but sometimes I’d mess around and give myself a feathery look too. The possibilities were endless, and I was on board. But the gel was a little too sticky. Throughout my day, I’d be picking clear flakes out of my hair. It was not the vibe.

So, I decided to invest in a legit brow gel. I read an article on Man Repeller about the best ones out there, and unsurprisingly, Glossier’s Boy Brow topped the list. I had heard of Boy Brow before (who hasn’t?) but I didn’t realize it came in a clear formula until I read up on it. I ordered myself a tube, and I was very impressed.

With Boy Brow, I feel like I have a lot more control over my eyebrows. The small spoolie is perfect for my skinnier brows, and the formula itself isn’t sticky or gooey. It’s almost like a cream. I’m no longer pulling crap out of my eyebrows, but they still look great. I’ve started combing through my brows a bit even when I’m not wearing makeup. It’s a great way to pull my face together when I don’t really feel like it.

So basically I just came here to say that Boy Brow is definitely worth the hype. If you’ve been waiting to give it a try, I highly suggest doing so.

Over the Rainbow

When I was about six, my theatre camp was performing The Wizard of Oz. I wanted to be Dorothy SO bad. Obviously, I didn’t get the part, since I was six years old. I was so upset and cried all the way home that day. Instead, I got the part of Tibia, a skeleton who took the place of the flying monkeys. I eventually warmed up to it since I had my face painted like a skeleton, which I thought was the coolest thing ever (I still think so, tbh).

I got the chance to live out my Dorothy dreams that Halloween, but it just wasn’t enough for me. So a couple weeks ago I decided to play dress-up and create a modern Dorothy look.

What do you think? Do you wanna see more cosplays from me? Let me know in the comments!

Princess Di Vibes

Outfit of the Day, StyleKristenComment

If you’re like me and have been spending an absurd amount of time on Instagram lately, you’ve most likely seen the myriad of posts about Princess Diana’s bike shorts and sweatshirt looks. Bike shorts have been becoming trendy for a while now, but I couldn’t find a pair I actually liked until recently. Now, I practically live in them.

So when my dad got me this sweatshirt, I knew I’d be wearing it with my bike shorts allllll the time. It’s been one of my favorite looks on cooler days (on hot days too. I’m literally always in sweatshirts).

This sweatshirt itself is an all-time favorite too. It’s ridiculously comfortable and pays homage to one of the greatest rock and roll venues ever. It’s also an awesome design. You all know how I feel about graphic tees, but I’ll make an exception for cool ones like this.

The moral of the story is, it’s super easy to look like Princess Diana, and it’s even more badass when you’re wearing a metal shirt.

All Hail the Pant Leg Man

Outfit of the Day, StyleKristenComment

shirt (obviously from the Pant Leg Man, but this one is very similar). shorts. sneakers. sunglasses.

I post about this shirt a lot, but I think it’s important that I give some context as to how it came into my life.

As you (hopefully) know by now, my parents and I are huge metal fans, especially my dad. About two years ago, we went to a Judas Priest concert at Nassau Coliseum. We were actually supposed to see them again at the Coliseum in September, but it got canceled. Not because of COVID, but because the venue is closing, which makes me super sad. I grew up going to concerts there.

But I digress. As we were leaving, there were the usual men standing outside selling Judas Priest tees, and my dad decided to buy me one. The man asked what size I wanted, and when I told him, he rolled up his pant legs, where various tees were hidden. He literally took it out of his pants. I bought a T-shirt from a man’s pants.

I think about that Pant Leg Man a lot. Without him, I wouldn’t have gotten one of my favorite shirts. One of my friends actually has a very similar shirt that he bought “officially,” and it’s fading and ripping. My shirt is doing just fine.

That just goes to show you, always believe in the Pant Leg Man.

Supergoop! Glowscreen

Beauty Review, Cruelty-Free, WellnessKristenComment

Settle in gang, I need to tell you about this legendary sunscreen from Supergoop! For reference, every time I type the word Supergoop!, I’m actually yelling it in my head. It’s pretty fun.

I heard about Supergoop! a while ago, but had never given their sunscreen a try. In the past, I’ve used whatever I have in the house, which is usually something from Neutrogena, or Kiss My Face. I used to be a strong sunscreen advocate, but over time, I’ve gotten super lazy and I always forget to use it.

But during quarantine, I read an article about how important it is to use sunscreen even when we’re not going outdoors. The main reason is that windows block UVB rays, but not UVA rays, which are more harmful to your skin. But another, which I learned somewhere on my Instagram feed, was that the blue light from our various screens is harmful to our skin as well as our eyes. So, I searched Sephora for a sunscreen that would protect me from UVA rays and blue light, and stumbled upon Supergoop!’s Glowscreen

The Ingredients

Where do I start with this magic potion? The ingredients are *chef’s kiss* beautiful. All of Supergoop!’s products are cruelty-free. They try to use the cleanest ingredients possible, and they even have a “no list” full of ingredients they’ll never use. The main ingredients are a “Hydration Cocktail” (hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, and niacinamide), cocoa peptides, which help block blue light, and sea lavender, a powerful antioxidant that also aids in hydration.

The Formula

The main draw to Glowscreen is that it leaves you with a dewy finish. I don’t like looking dewy, and I didn’t realize that this was supposed to be a dewy formula until after I received it. But I tried it anyway, and I actually loved it. I was afraid it would make me look sweaty (which is usually the case), but it blends into my skin so nicely and gives it a nice little glow.

It also smells so, so good. I’m a big fan of sunscreen smelling like sunscreen, instead of something fruity and weird.

And, a little goes a long way! I’ve been using my tube every day for a little over two months now, and there’s still a ton left. The tube suggests using a dime size, but I usually use less.

The Results

It really, really works. I haven’t gotten one sunburn on my face since I started using it. The true test was when I went for a motorcycle ride with my dad. I applied Glowscreen to my face but didn’t put sunscreen on the rest of my body because as previously mentioned, I can be lazy and forgetful. I got a killer sunburn on my neck, chest, and scalp, but absolutely nothing on my face.

It was a good reminder that sunscreen works! It protects you and your skin! I just watched a Tik Tok of a girl who had a huge scar on her back because she had a teeny, cancerous mole that needed to be removed. We need to take care of ourselves. Making sunscreen a step in my skincare routine has helped me remember to put it on every day. It sits in my cabinet with the rest of my products. Glowscreen also works as a primer for your makeup, which is a huge bonus. There’s literally no reason not to use it. I know there’s still a lot to learn about sunscreen, and that sometimes it can get confusing. But Supergoop! is a company that makes sun care fun.

If you couldn’t tell from this glowing (haha!) review, I very highly recommend Glowscreen. I just purchased some scalp sunscreen from Supergoop!, and I’m so excited to try it. I’ll let you know how it goes! (I’m assuming that it’ll go very well).
