Black Overall Dress and Snakeskin Top.jpg

I feel like in every year of my life, at least for the past few years, I’ve had a certain outfit or look that encompasses my personal style. Like, if I were a cartoon character, that would be the outfit I’m in for most of the series. This season, it’s been my snakeskin top and overall dress.

I stumbled upon these lovely pieces at H&M when I wasn’t even looking for them. I love a good snakeskin print, but I didn’t feel the need to buy any snakeskin until I saw this top. The cut and feel were perfect for me. Perfect to go under the black overall dress that was staring me down from across the store.

I don’t necessarily try to be up on the trends like most kids nowadays, but the overall dress had been calling to me for a while. I bought a blue zip-up denim dress from Forever 21, but it wasn’t perfect. This one was.

While we gazed at each other lovingly, I pictured all the shirts I’d wear under it, how cute it would look with tights. And before I knew it, she was in my closet.

As I had predicted, the snakeskin top and overall dress combo was a vibe. The first time I wore it out, I described myself as “Goth Fran Drescher,” which is honestly such a mood and the energy I want for the rest of my life.

Of course, I wear the top and dress separately sometimes, but they’re better together. A true match made in H(&M)eaven

What’s up cutie patooties? Tired of quarantine yet? I miss seeing my friends more than anything. Whether it’s hitting up some bars, going to house parties, or just getting brunch, I miss seeing their smiling faces and giving them lots of hugs.

Here’s an outfit I love to wear to social gatherings. As soon as I bought this snakeskin top and leather skirt at H&M, I knew they’d be a dream team. They just look so badass together!

Of course, I always have to wear my KVD Vegan Beauty Everlasting Liquid Lipstick with this look (by the way, if you’re following along on my Instagram, I ended up buying three more tubes), but I like to switch up my shoes. I wore my thigh-high boots to my birthday party, which looked adorable, but I had to keep pulling them up the entire night, which was annoying. I wore my black Timberlands to the New Year’s Eve party my family threw, honestly because I wasn’t trying to get drunk and fall down in front of all my parents’ friends. Priorities! Of course, my black heels are a ride or die and probably look the best out of all of them.

I’m so excited to take this look out for a spin when we’re allowed out of our houses. What are you most looking forward to when quarantine is over?

five high heel hacks that'll save your feet

StyleKristenComment

Settle in bad bitches, it’s time to learn how to wear five-inch heels to the club, dance all night, and fall safely asleep without the soles of your feet throbbing like your hangover headache.

Or, if you just wanna wear heels to the office sometime, that’s cool too!

  1. Don’t Push Yourself

Okay, first things first. If you can’t walk in the heels, don’t wear them. I’m serious. I know they’re cute, but they’re not worth the medical bills when you break your ankle trying to bust a move to “Truth Hurts.” That’s not cute at all, and Lizzo would be disappointed in you. And honestly, you won’t look that cute in heels that you can’t wear because even though everyone said you looked great I’m here to tell you that you’re walking like a baby giraffe and, say it with me folks, that’s just not cute (unless you’re actually a baby giraffe; in that case go nuts and rock that blue tongue).

  2. Stick to Thicker Heels

I know stilettos are super sexy and make you feel like Venus the Goddess of Love herself, but again, how much of a goddess do you feel when you’re supporting the entire weight of your body on teeny tiny sticks? Newsflash, you’re not Rihanna. There are plenty of cute, thick, supportive heels out there that probably look better with your outfit anyway.

  3. Cut Your Toenails

Have you ever stubbed your toe? I did last week and it actually started bleeding and now I have a bruised toenail. Anyway! Wearing heels with long toenails is the pain equivalent to ramming your toes into that end table (you know, the one that’s been there forever but you seem to have no spatial awareness of?) repeatedly. You should keep your toes and feet clean anyway to ward off fungus and infection. So for everyone’s sake, give yourself a pedicure.

  4. Wear Grip Socks

If you’re wearing closed-toe heels, I highly recommend wearing the grip socks you wear to Barre class. I read this hack in a Well + Good article recently, and guys, it’s changed everything. My feet tend to slide forward when I walk in heels, so my toes are constantly digging into the front of my shoes (another reason to cut your damn toenails!). When I wear grip socks, I feel like I have a lot more control over my stride, and my toes can breathe, which means more dancing to Lizzo.

  5. Invest in Shoe Inserts

There are so many different shoe inserts out there for different purposes, you just need to find the one that works for you! My personal favorites (#notsponsored) are Foot Petals, which I reviewed last year. I wear their Tip Toes to protect the balls of my feet, but they have so many different solutions for foot pain, like back-of-heel inserts, Tip Toes with slices at the top for flip-flops, and even teeny tiny ones you can cut and stick on the ends of your shoes to protect your precious pinkie toes.

Essentially, just do what feels best for you and your feet! Those bitches hold up your entire body, and we need to treat them with love.

Her Campus' College Fashion Week Fall 2018

Hello, loves! Back in October, I attended Her Campus’ College Fashion Week at Boston’s Revere Hotel. I had the best time! The event had a ton of great sponsors, like eos, Almay, and Ulta. I was given a literal ton of merch from a bunch of other amazing companies when I walked in.

The bar looked so fun, but I was still 20 at the time, so I couldn’t enjoy one of their cute cocktails. I made a cute pink sparkly pin that says “You’re Doing Fucking Great.” It’s still pinned to one of my bulletin boards :’)

Then, I entered the main event space, where I was met with, essentially, a beauty wonderland. The first thing I noticed was a pool of purple eos lip balms that people were taking pictures in (which was held together by Velcro, fun fact). To my right was a huge Ulta Beauty Studio, where attendees could get trendy hair or makeup looks done and show them off in their adorable photo booth.

eos’ booth

Next to that was a delicious booth by Chloe., a new vegan fast-food chain in Boston, where I ate a bunch of yummy chocolate chip cookies! Next, I ventured to Almay’s Cosmic Café, a spacey lounge area full of Almay products on café tables surrounded by ring lights to aid in all the selfie-taking. I could’ve gotten an ice pop there, but instead I waited in line for an Almay makeup bag and some of their Goddess Gloss.

On the opposite side of the room were Primark’s fall styles in three decorated rooms for, you guessed it, more pictures! Between the Almay and Primark attractions were rows of chairs and a small runway. Most of the seats were taken when I got there, so I stood on the left side of the runway, where I had a perfect view the entire time.

When Windsor Western, Her Campus’ CEO, introduced the show, the explained that this year’s theme was The Real Runway, so none of the models we would see were professionals. Most of the girls in the show had never even modeled before! I couldn’t even tell. They all looked like they were having the greatest time on the runway. They danced, smiled, and posed while the audience cheered them on. It was such a positive experience.

The looks on the runway were SO cute too! The show was split into three sections: Modern Nomad, Printed Paradise, and Power Pose. All three featured clothes from Primark, the second featured MATTER as well, and the last included pieces from hcxo.shop, Feminist Goods, Ali & Ariel, femininitees, and Sleep Riot. To see some of the adorable looks that were featured, check out the “runway” highlight on my Instagram

After the show, I decided to take some pictures at Primark’s and eos’ booths since the lines were starting to wind down. Since I attended the event alone, I didn’t have anyone to take my pictures. Thankfully, everyone working the event was super sweet, and they enthusiastically snapped candids of me while cheering me on.

Overall, I had the best time at Her CampusCollege Fashion Week! I’m upset that I never knew this event existed when I was in my earlier years of college. If Her Campus brings this event to your city next fall, I would definitely recommend attending.

Hello, my loves! I’m so sorry I’ve been MIA lately. I got locked out of my website! But I’m back and it’s lit. I’m working on putting out an e-newsletter soon so I’ll actually be able to tell you things like that. Stay tuned! Also, please excuse that some of my photos recently have been crappy iPhone pictures, my camera has decided to betray me and I’m rather pissed. It’s going great over here guys.

Here’s one of my favorite looks of all time. You know how I always say when you look good you feel good? This is one of those outfits that makes me feel freakin’ awesome.

This is actually a shirt I got for my uncle a couple years ago, so I stole it back when he passed away and turned it into a dress! I think he’d be proud. It’s so comfortable and the perfect balance of glam and casual, especially when you style it the right way. I like to wear my black Timberlands, my thigh-high boots, or these heels with this dress.

Since I was going out when I wore this look, I wore some glam makeup with my favorite lipstick of all time (sidenote: I lost my lipstick at a different party and literally cried. I just got another one for my birthday and I feel complete again). I slicked my hair back into a high pony and was ready to take on whatever the night threw at me.

And it was actually a really fun night! My friend and I went to a party and didn’t know anyone, so we left and ran around our neighborhood for a little bit. I got Five Guys which makes me the happiest girl in the world.

What’s your favorite party look? Let me know in the comments!
