Black Overall Dress and Snakeskin Top.jpg

I feel like in every year of my life, at least for the past few years, I’ve had a certain outfit or look that encompasses my personal style. Like, if I were a cartoon character, that would be the outfit I’m in for most of the series. This season, it’s been my snakeskin top and overall dress.

I stumbled upon these lovely pieces at H&M when I wasn’t even looking for them. I love a good snakeskin print, but I didn’t feel the need to buy any snakeskin until I saw this top. The cut and feel were perfect for me. Perfect to go under the black overall dress that was staring me down from across the store.

I don’t necessarily try to be up on the trends like most kids nowadays, but the overall dress had been calling to me for a while. I bought a blue zip-up denim dress from Forever 21, but it wasn’t perfect. This one was.

While we gazed at each other lovingly, I pictured all the shirts I’d wear under it, how cute it would look with tights. And before I knew it, she was in my closet.

As I had predicted, the snakeskin top and overall dress combo was a vibe. The first time I wore it out, I described myself as “Goth Fran Drescher,” which is honestly such a mood and the energy I want for the rest of my life.

Of course, I wear the top and dress separately sometimes, but they’re better together. A true match made in H(&M)eaven

Glossier's Cloud Paint

I have a very weird relationship with blush. I used to wear it a lot when I was a dancer, but I never fully understood what it did, other than help your face stand out on stage. I didn’t think it was something I needed to wear every day.

One night a few years ago, I mentioned to one of my makeup-savvy sorority sisters that I felt like I needed to redo my makeup before we went out, and she told me that I just needed a little blush to brighten up my face. She put some on me and it made so much of a difference. So, I bought some e.l.f. blush (which was one of my very first reviews on The Clunkster :’) ) and an angled brush to apply it. But I still never had much luck with it. I always felt like I looked like a clown.

I stopped wearing blush for a bit, but felt so washed out. I have very high, prominent cheekbones, so blush really does make a difference for me. But no matter what I did, I always ended up putting on too much or too little.

Then, I took a trip to the Glossier HQ in Manhattan and started playing with some of the Cloud Paint they had on display (this was pre-Corona). I really liked how it made my cheeks look lightly kissed by color, and how easy it was to apply. So, I bought a tube of Cloud Paint in Puff.

If you’re unfamiliar with Cloud Paint, it’s basically a tube of blush color, like, well, paint. You squeeze a bit out of the tube and lightly dab it on your cheeks. It gives me a lot more control over how much I’m applying. If I pick up too much, I can just wipe it off. Even if I end up putting too much on my face, I’m usually able to fix it with a tissue. Regardless, I usually swipe my cheeks with a clean blush brush to blend it just a bit more naturally.

The shade that I bought, Puff, is perfect for me. Since it’s summer and I’m wearing a lot less makeup, I’ll sometimes put on just a little bit of Cloud Paint on my cheeks and nose for a sunkissed look. It lasts throughout the day, and I don’t look like a clown!

Cloud Paint has quickly become one of my ride-or-die products, like Boy Brow and Milky Jelly. Trust me when I say that it’s worth the hype.

Remember Easter?

Jeez Louise, doesn’t April feel like it was ten years ago? I’ve been seeing so many memes about the “Early Quarantine” era and it’s making me nostalgic for my family’s first quarantine holiday: Easter!

I know I’ve said it a million times before, but my mom is the absolute best. She’s insanely optimistic and will never let anything get her down. We usually have a lot of holidays with my extended family, like Easter, which we obviously weren’t able to have this year. Even though I love Easter, it’s kind of a cursed holiday for us. One year we had to cancel because I had the flu (yes, in April, I have questions too), the next year we had to cancel because my mom had a stomach bug, and this year everything was canceled because of Miss Rona.

But never fear, Queen Doreen is here! She still cooked us a lovely meal, set the table with a table cloth, napkins, glasses, and candles, and put some of my stuffed animals in the extra seats at our table. We all got dressy and put makeup on, like the pre-quarantine days. She made the holiday special even though it was much different from previous years.

I kept things simple with some leggings, a dressy shirt, and white Converse. This top is adorable, but I never wear it! I thought Easter would be the perfect occasion because of the flowery details. It was really nice to do a full face of makeup too.

Even though we made Easter fun, I would really like to fully celebrate the rest of the holidays in 2020. So if everyone could please wear a mask and socially distance, that would be great! Thanks!!!

earrings from SweetCreatureShoppe

My amazing perfect wonderful beautiful talented cousin just started an Etsy shop! This is a HUGE deal, guys. She’s been wearing the sickest handmade earrings to family events for years and finally decided to start selling them. All her designs are so unique and kitschy. I bought two pairs (so far): a pair of mismatched purple gems, and the cutest Barbie shoe earrings in the world!

I’ve literally always been a Barbie girl. And a Bratz girl. And a Polly Pocket girl. And an American Girl girl (I just really like dolls, okay?). So I decided to create a hot pink look to go with these hot pink earrings, and I love the way it turned out!

I used white liquid eyeliner by Danessa Myricks Beauty as a base, then colored it in with a hot pink shade from James Charles’ Morphe palette (both things that I’ll be reviewing soon!). To match, I wore some hot pink lipgloss by Almay. I felt like a literal Barbie, and I loved every second of it. I was about to cry while taking this makeup off before I went to bed.

So, if you’re in the market for some new earrings (or even if you’re not), check out SweetCreatureShoppe on Etsy! And check out my other cousin’s shop on Instagram, the Thrift Gift Shoppe! She just made some tie-dye and bleach masks and I’m obsessed. My cousins are just kicking ass, and I am so here for it.

Glam Pajamas

Happy August, my lovelies! I’ll spare you my surprise about how slowly yet quickly July went by. Time is irrelevant in the age of Coronavirus.

When I posted this look to my Instagram, I referred to it as “chill-but-not-chill.” It consists of joggers, a shirt, and sneakers. Sounds pretty chill and casual, right? But I elevated things with my makeup and the fact that I wore a snakeskin shirt. I don’t necessarily categorize snakeskin as casual. In my eyes, it’s pretty badass. Not saying that you can’t be both casual and badass, but you know what I mean. At least I hope so.

Anyway, the inspiration from this outfit came from trying to decide what to wear to dinner at a fancy restaurant. I settled on “glam pajamas,” and thus this look was born. It quickly became one of my favorites.

The only downside is that these joggers are quite temperamental. I fell in love with them and used to wear them all the time until I shrunk them in the dryer. Sad. So I bought another pair and managed to shrink those, even though I air dried them.

So what I’m trying to say is, I love feeling comfortable while looking really cute, and if you know of any joggers that won’t shrink, please send them my way.
